Mat Hostetler will join Dee Hoty in the off-Broadway production of Merle Good’s The Preacher and the Shrink, replacing Richard Thieriot, who has accepted a role in Luna Gale at Chicago's Goodman Theatre. As previously announced, Hoty will lead a company that begins previews on November 2 and opens on November 18 at the Beckett Theatre on Theatre Row. The limited engagement will continue through January 4, 2014, directed by Steven Yuhasz.
In addition to Hoty and Hostetler, The Preacher and the Shrink will feature Tom Galantich, Adria Vitlar and Nicholas Urda.
In The Preacher and the Shrink, a spirited young woman makes a sexual accusation that checkmates her father, a respected and popular pastor. They have been estranged for years by a deep grief. Will she follow through? Will he fight back? Even the psychiatrist (Hoty) who tries to help becomes conflicted when middle age romance develops.
Hostetler starred in the first national tour of War Horse. His TV credits include a recurring role on Boardwalk Empire and episodes of Six Feet Under, White Collar, NCIS, Cold Case, Smash, JAG and Blue Bloods.
